About Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia
Dementia is an umbrella term used to describe a collection of symptoms that are caused by disorders affecting the brain. Dementia comes in many forms and many conditions are believed to be contributing factors. Dementia can affect communication, thinking, behavior, motor skills and feelings.
Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, accounting for 60-80% of dementia diagnoses, but it is not the only form of dementia. The PANDA Project is ready to guide you through your journey.
About the PANDA Project
The PANDA Project (Providing Alzheimer’s N’ Dementia Assistance) is an initiative administered by SARCOA. The PANDA Project provides supportive services for People Living with Dementia (PLWD) and their Caregivers at no cost to the consumer. The PANDA Project is made possible through grant funding provided by the Administration for Community Living (ACL), and Alabama Department of Senior Services.
How PANDA Helps Caregivers
The PANDA Project utilizes a person/family-centered approach to provide supportive services to individuals living with Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD) and their Caregivers. PANDA helps to improve quality of life and may provide:
- One-on-One Caregiver Training
- Caregiver Intervention
- Home Modifications
- Supplemental Supplies
- Training & Education
PANDA also offers a variety of education and training:
- Caregiver Intervention Education
- Community Dementia Education
- Brain Health Education
- First Responder “Dementia Friendly” Training
